Welcome to the 'Jing
jingkids welcomes new expatriate families who have made the brave decision to travel to the capital city for a fresh adventure. Welcome to the friendly Beijing community, we can’t wait to see you around the neighborhood!
We are Team Moffett - Raphael (College Administrator), Aisha (Professional Life Coach), and Khalil Moffett (4th grade student). We’re from the United States and moved to China in 2020. We lived in Suzhou for 2.5 years then moved to Beijing seven months ago in August of 2022.
Welcome to the 'Jing! What brings you and your family to the capital?
We moved to Beijing because Raphael joined the amazing team at Schwarzman College on the campus of Tsinghua University. He is the Chief Student Affairs Officer/Associate Dean of Student Life. He oversees all co-curricular programming and student support initiatives.
How has the city been treating your family so far?
When we first arrived, we were able to tour several of the historical sites in the city, visit the Great Wall, and enjoyed a few trips to the mountains. We were in awe of how big Beijing was and how there was both city and nature to enjoy. Then we had a time where we couldn’t move around due to COVID so we didn’t get to explore many areas. Now that the city has opened up, we’re able to walk around different neighborhoods, try different restaurants, and find gems to enjoy outside of the city.
What's your family most looking forward to doing in Beijing?
We love the history and the diversity of the city. We’re looking forward to all of the various cultural experiences that we can engage as a family. We’re always intrigued when we meet new people from all over China and from every part of the world. Every connection is teaching us something new about ourselves and others. It’s beautiful!
